What would happen if new cells stopped forming when we reached maturity while old cells never died off? Then consider what would happen if new cells continued to form while old cells never died off?

  1. in the first case we will not be able to grow or reproduce, and if we get the slightest injury, we die. The second case is cancer when cells keep dividing when they are not needed to.

  2. interesting.. i guess for the first one.. if new cells stopped forming and the old cells never died and stayed the way the functioned till reaching maturity (not counting environmental influences) then ageing would not be an issue.. (and a lot anti wrinkle product companies would be out of business.)

as for the second part.. if new cells continued to form while old ones never died off.. including say, bone cells, muscle, brain, etc.. then humans might be giants..

in both cases.. we'd live forever.. unless someone else decided otherwise.. its a bit of random question.. but i tried..
