Celtic Manor named golf resort of the year.

The Venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, Celtic Manor in Wales, has been named Golf Resort of the Year. This location which is just two hours outside London was given this honour by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.
The resort hosted the greatest Ryder Cup to date this year. The accolade was give to the resort at the 2010 International Golf Travel Market in Valencia, Spain. Voted by 345 members, which consisted of members from 51 different countries, it’s quite a big
deal for Celtic Manor to earn this merit. It has been recognized for the excellence of the service and facilities at the five star resort in Wales.
"This is a great honour for The Celtic Manor Resort and it is wonderful to be recognized in this way by the world's golf travel specialists," says Dylan Matthews, Chief Executive of Celtic Manor. "It is very pleasing that in a year when we hosted one of
the world's biggest golf tournaments, we also more than matched the expectations of the tour operators who bring so many golfers to our resort and its three championship golf courses."
By being golf resort of the year, Celtic Manor is now parallel with breathtaking locations such as, Portugal's San Lorenzo, Open Championship venue Turnberry, Ireland's Carton House and Doonbeg.
A few elements were considered by the voters when making their decision. The maintenance and look of the course really mattered. Customer satisfaction, accommodations and quality of service played a crucial part. The value for money was of course looked
at and also accessibility to tee times.
The Chief Executive of IAGTO, Peter Walton, said that winning this award truly portrays the effort and hard work the resort underwent. He said that Celtic Manor has made sure it has good relations with the golf tour operators all around the world. People
in charge at the resort always confirm their customer’s satisfaction. They want people to not only enjoy their stay but also be enriched with the complete golf experience. He especially mentioned the grand Ryder Cup and that it made the IAGTO member operators
inquire more about Wales and the Celtic Manor.
Celtic Manor is located in 1400 acres of woodland parkland in the scenic Usk Valley. It has two elegant health clubs and spas. The amazing resort also offers tennis courts, fishing, shooting and an array of restaurants. Out of all these amenities, one can
definitely not miss the three championship courses available.
Celtic Manor is on the M4 motorway, not very far from London. This resort was also voted as UK’s Top Conference Hotel for the fourth consecutive time by the Conference & Incentive Travel Magazine.
The Masters Champion, Phil Mickelson, described the Twenty Ten Course as a ‘wonderful golf course’ and a great place to play. The 2010 European Cup team’s captain Colin Montgomerie termed it as seven star. Of course this resort holds a special place in Monty’s
heart as he led the victorious European team on this course.
The 2010 course was especially designed for the Ryder Cup. Day to day golfers also use the two other courses. The two other courses include Roman Road which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The Roman Road course was the venue for the Celtic Manor
Wales Open from 2005 to 2007. The Montgomerie is another golf course and was laid out by the Ryder Cup Captain.
The resort was improved in 2009 when an all-weather short game practice area and indoor putting green were added to the driving range and teaching studios.
Overall, Celtic Manor offers the complete golf package to all its visitors and is truly deserving of the ‘Golf Resort of the Year’ award.
