Celtic boss tips Ki Sung-Yeung to become big player for club
Celtic manager Neil Lennon says that midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung is a capable of becoming an important player for the Scottish Premier League giants.
The South Korea international shone in the 1-0 victory over St Mirren on Sunday 19 November, and Lennon believes that if the 21-year-old can replicate that kind of performance on a consistent basis, he will win over the demanding Hoops fans.
Lennon told reporters that: "I have been very impressed by him. I thought he was wonderful at the weekend and brave in getting the ball back for us. Ki manipulates the ball brilliantly when he is under pressure and his range of passing was there for all
to see. He has a real presence on the pitch.
"It maybe took him a bit of time but he has adjusted to the British style of play and there is more to come from him. He is only 21 and there is no reason to let talent like that go. We have to bring it on, nurture it and I can see him blossoming."
Ki joined the Celtic Park club in January 2010, when he completed his switch from FC Seoul for a fee of 2.1 million pounds after reportedly rejecting an offer from Portsmouth, who were then in the English Premier League.
Since moving to Scotland, the midfielder has made 23 appearances for Celtic and has scored one goal, a 25-yard effort in a 4-0 victory over St Mirren.
Ki has also made an impact at international level, having made 28 appearances for South Korea and scoring four goals for his country. He also played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, setting up goals against Greece and Nigeria in group stage games that helped
South Korea qualify for the knock-out stage of the tournament. However, he could not help his side find a way past Uruguay as they were dumped out at the Round of 16 stage.
