Celtic defender says close bonds can help club win title
Celtic defender Mark Wilson claims that the tight-knit nature of the squad will help them to reclaim the Scottish Premier League title this season.
Neil Lennon's men have gone two seasons without winning the league championship as Rangers have claimed the title in each of the last two terms.
In a bid to recapture the mantle of Scottish champions, Lennon brought in 12 new faces from a variety of different countries and backgrounds. However, Wilson believes that the squad have still been able to forge close bonds and a desire to work hard for each
other on the pitch.
The fullback believes that this attitude inspired the club to find a winning goal in the last minute of their clash with St Mirren on Sunday 14 November, and is hopeful that the team spirit can help Celtic win the title at the end of the season.
He told reporters that: "This group is close to each other. We kept going to the last minute and deserved the victory. The players have gelled much better and quicker than I expected and the boys who have come in are good lads. When you get on well together
off the pitch it shows on it. I'm a big believer in team spirit and I hope it continues.
"Winning 9 -0 the other week was fantastic but to win 1-0 in that manner was just as good. It shows we believe in each other enough not to panic."
The win over St Mirren was crucial for Celtic in keeping pace with fierce rivals Rangers at the top of the SPL table. Lennon's side are just one point behind the Ibrox club. While Celtic passed up a solid chance to overtake Rangers when Hibernian won 3-0 at
Ibrox and the Hoops lost 2-0 to Heart of Midlothian on the same night, every point will be vital in the title race.
