Celtic sign Olivier Kapo
Celtic have completed the signing of Olivier Kapo on a short-term deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The 30-year-old midfielder was available as a free agent after being released from English Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic over the summer.
After singing his deal, he told Celtic’s official website that he could not turn down the opportunity to play for the Parkhead club.
Kapo said, "It’s a great club with a lot of history and I have had the chance to know about Celtic when watching the Champions League, so when the opportunity was given to me I just couldn’t refuse.
"I first heard of the interest a month ago and my wish is to stay here for as long as possible and to perform as best I can for the club. I played with Juventus, who are a big team, but Celtic are also very big too."
Kapo also asked his friend and former Celtic star Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe about life with the Scottish giants after finding out about the club’s interest in September.
"I know the club quite well through the UEFA Champions League and the Glasgow derby, which you can’t miss, and also because of my friend Perrier-Doumbe who used to play for Celtic.
"I spent 11 years with him in Auxerre, so we grew up together as young players. He's like my brother and we spend holidays together. Before I came here, I called him and asked him about Celtic. He told me they are a good team, with great fans and a big stadium,
and that the staff and everything are good as well."
The former France international moved to Wigan in 2008 from Birmingham City. He also played for Italian giants Juventus and French club Auxerre. Kapo also enjoyed spells at Monaco and Spanish side Levante on loan from Juve.
In his time at Wigan, he could not pin down a regular first-team place and had his contract, which had a year left to run, was torn up by mutual consent after spending the latter part of the campaign on loan at French outfit Boulogne.
