Celtic winger hopes to return from injury soon
Celtic winger James Forrest says that he is hopeful he will soon be able to return to action after an extended spell on the sidelines with an ankle problem.
The 19-year-old has been out of action for over two months after suffering the injury in the 3-0 win over Scottish Premier League victory over Heart of Midlothian on 11 September, a game in which he scored the opening goal, despite being told that he would
only be out for a week.
Despite the injury torment, Forrest is hopeful that he can make a return to training with the SPL giants within the next week, after using a previous long-term problem as his inspiration to make an impact for Neil Lennon's side.
He told reporters, "I got told I was only going to be out for a week, but it has dragged on. It has made it even worse because I got told I would only be out for a few days. I was out seven months with my groin. That was a terrible year.
"When I came back and played that year after the operation, I just felt the same as I had before. I've not had an operation this time so hopefully I can do the same. I started running three or four weeks ago, so hopefully now I can kick on if I don't get
a reaction. I had a wee setback last week, but the plan is maybe to train one day next week. I will see what happens."
The Scotland Under-21 winger was on the verge of making the breakthrough as a regular in the Celtic line-up when the injury struck, having played six games across all competitions this season. He has scored two goals in the SPL this term and also created
an assist.
His early-season form was so impressive that he was named the league's Young Player of the Month for August.
