Celtics Kevin Garnett and Lakers centre Andrew Bynum named 'Player of the Week' – NBA Update
Boston Celtics veteran Kevin Garnett and Los Angeles Lakers’ centre Andrew Bynum have been named Eastern and Western Conference Player of the Week respectively. They were judged for their performances in the games played from Monday,
April 9 to Sunday, April 15.
Garnet has provided the impetus behind Celtics success, helping Boston secure a place in the playoffs picture. C’s won 4 and lost 1 in the past week and went 3-1 in games in which Kevin participated.
He opened his account in the player’s of the week race with a dash as he tallied 22 points to go with 12 boards in a crucial 88-86 victory against Atlanta Hawks on 11th April.
It was Kevin who helped C’s to sneak pass Hawks in the extra time and the veteran refused to take the credit. He said that it was the team effort that allowed us to win.
"It took a group effort tonight. You think about your summer workouts, those workouts are to be ready for nights like this."
The 35 years old averaged 20 points, 10.8 boards and 2.5 assists in the past week he also averaged 1.3 steals and 1.0 block for C’s during the stretch.
He went on to cap off the week with style ,scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds in a double-digit 94-82, victory over New Jersey Nets on April 14th.
Nets head coach Avery Johnson was compelled to decorate Kevin with acclamation.
"He has found the fountain of youth. He can shoot, he can pass, he rebounds, he plays pick-and-roll defence, he blocks shots, and he is doing it all right now. Garnett and Bass are a really good combination at four and five and
that's why they will have a chance come playoff time”.
C’s are currently on the 9th cloud as it is the 2nd time in this month with one of their player grabbing the said award. Early in the month Paul Pierce was nominated as player of the week.
They are now a front runner for the post season game and their morale has been boosted after receiving such esteemed awards.
Similarly Lakers’ Andrew Bynum has been nothing but brilliant in the past week. He not only carried Lakers on his back in the absence of their talisman Kobe Bryant but also grabbed marked achievements.
The most triumphed achievement past week was his performance against San Antonio Spurs. He mesmerized the basketball nation after posting an amazing 30 rebounds and 16 points in a 98-84 victory against Spurs on April 11th.
Andrew was yet a bit cheesed off with his shots as he was 7 of 20 from the field.
"It's great to have 30 boards, but my shots not working and I'm little upset about that," said Bynum. "For me, I'll remember shooting poorly”.
He quickly redeemed his shooting touch in the very next game against Denver Nuggets as he netted 30 points and had 8 boards in Lakers’ 103-97 victory on April 13th.
Lakers were 4-0 under his stewardship as the 24 years old averaged 21.8 points to go with an unmatched 16.3 boards (league’s best) he also averaged  2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in the past week.
Los Angeles also have secured a post season position and are on the 3rd spot in Eastern conference. Andrew stepped up at such a moment when Kobe was struggling with injury. Thus they have discovered another great player
to rely upon.
