Celtic's Scott Brown may return in time for New Year Old Firm clash
Celtic captain Scott Brown may make a return from injury in time for the second Old Firm clash of the season.
Brown broke the third metatarsal bone in his foot back in September and, while the initial prognosis suggested that he would be out for around six weeks, the 25-year-old has yet to return to full fitness.
The Scotland international had been expected to remain out of action until the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final against Aberdeen on 29 January, but his club revealed that he could be fit in time to play some part in the 2 January trip to face fierce rivals
Rangers at Ibrox.
Manager Neil Lennon, who is hopeful that Brown's fellow midfielder Beram Kayal is also edging closer towards a comeback, told reporters that: "We got a bit of good news about Scott the other day after he had had another scan. We're hoping that both he and Beram
are now three or four weeks away."
Brown joined Celtic from fellow SPL side Hibernian in 2007 for a fee of 4.4 million pounds, the largest ever sum paid from one Scottish club to another for a player's services.
After struggling in his first season, where he suffered from disciplinary problems, Brown has thrived for the Hoops, pulling the strings from midfield as he racked up 136 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals in the process.
He has won the SPL title once with Celtic and has also picked up two Scottish League Cup winner's medals – one each with Hibs and Celtic.
Brown has also become an important player for the Scotland national team after making his full international debut against the United States in 2005. He has made 21 appearances for his country and has scored two international goals.
