Question:

Center brace in a 90 Gal. tank?

So, I'm looking at getting a 90 Gal. tank, used, but great condition, for $100 CAD. It's got a plastic center brace built in to the trim. My question is this:

Would I be able to silicone (with aquarium silicone of course ;D) a glass brace to the tank and cut out the plastic one? I just want something that will look good if I want a 48" light fixture all the way across my tank.

Thanks!

  1. The center brace is actually beneficial to help the glass from bowing out, so for tanks larger than 50 gallons it is a wise idea to have some sort of center brace. You can definitely try siliconing a glass piece for the brace instead of the black trim. My 90 gallon fluval osaka tank has glass for braces......and it is made to be a topless tank, so why would they put braces on if it is not made to hold lids!!!

  2. The center brace is used to hold the 2 separate lids with lights. As long as there is something in the middle that can hold those, it should work.

He has 3 tanks, 1 of which is 185 gallons. He makes all kinds of aquarium structures inside them using silicone to apply them

  3. Sure. Easily Done.
