  1. Nice pants, Steve...

The answers above are very good, here's another way to help improve contact. The most helpful drill for my swing right now is to start with just my take away, fairly slowly, trying to get the club head from address to a specific "spot" that I want it about waist high.

From there I'll make the move from the waist high position up to the top of my backswing, again several times fairly slowly and controlled, looking to be in a specific "spot" at the top.

Next I'll practice the first move down, once again moving from the top down to about waist high, back and again.

Then down and through impact the same way. It really helped me gain some easy power because I realized I wasn't "loading up" my wrists much before impact.

Don't forget to get fitted for the proper club length, shaft flex, and grip sizes either. These are all important. Good luck.

  2. If you are having difficulty in hitting the sweet spot on your clubs. Try practicing with a much much much shorter backswing and slow things down dramatically. This will take away a lot of the variables of a larger, quicker backswing. Once you get consistent using this method take it back more and more until you can consistently hit the sweet spot on a regular basis.

Don't worry about distance until you get the accuracy down. Distance will come by itself. I would much rather have accuracy over distance any day.

  3. Flem has a great answer.

Start by hitting chip shots, are you hitting them all square?

Make sure you accelerate at the ball in the through swing.

Move to 1/2 shots, 3/4 shots, then full shots.

You have to be able to hit the ball square from shorter length swings if you want to be able to hit them square from the full length swing.

You will also probably notice a solid 3/4 length swing will go just as far as your normal full length swing.
