I am getting married in sept.

the ceremony will be in a barn and the reception outside of the mansion next to it. a garden type area. (i know its sounds a little weird lol)

My colors are oasis and orange (orange flowers and oasis dresses) http://davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_bycolor_detail.jsp?stid=2971&sid=19042&cfid=8

what do you think i should do for centerpieces? i was thinking about incorporating dried oat stems and stuff to fit the barn theme but it doesnt need to have it. help me think of some ideas =)

If it involves flowers it cant be much cause we have a tight budget and are already spending 500 on flowers.

  1. in season fruit that go with your colors in various clear bowls or containers are easy and cheap and bring in color.

here is another idea "country casual"

  2. I was recently at a wedding and for the centerpieces they used cakes. So basically each table had a little cake, each with its own flavor. Some were on top of this high glass tray thing, but had a flower in the center of each one. The tray it was on was decorated. It looked nice, and not to over done. You also don't have to worry about the cake:)! hope all works out!

  3. $500? I hope you can do it. When you do, tell me how. Just have the florist make a ring of baby;s breath or mini daisies and put a candle in the center. That's what I did, and it was literally pennies on the dollar. If anything, ask the florist for flowers they always keep in stock and go from there.

  4. Beautiful color combo..

Well since you mentioned the reception was going to be outside..and assuming that your reception will be going into the evening you might want to go with some lighting. Or more specifically a lantern centerpiece. Ikea has some cool kind of "barn" looking lanterns called ROTERA lanterns that they sell for 5 bucks a piece. 3 of those on a table atop a bed of flower petals with a few flower heads at the base of the lanterns would be really pretty. and really cheap. Another way to cut down costs would be to get different types of flower petals not just roses.

    Good Luck!!

  5. Oh, you can save a lot of money by making the centerpieces yourself!  Just use silk flowers, you can get cheap at the dollar store.  Fall colors would be ideal!  Baskets of pumpkins, squash and fall leaves, and Indian corn.  Dried corn stalks.  Bits of hay.  You can also get those small little pumpkins, cut a small hole in the top and use those for candle holders too (even the battery operated candles), and the pumpkins and squash can make great name places, with a couple of colorful leaves underneath.  Fall colors would be idea for the color theme you have.  Especially the fall colors of leaves and Indian corn.  And the pumpkins and squashes, as they come in all different colors and shapes.  Sunflowers would be good too (even if they are fake silk.)  You'll save a lot of money that way.  All my flowers were done in silk and hardly anyone knew they were not real.  You can even get some nuts, like acorns, walnuts, almonds, and put them in small jars for accents.  Like, a glass in a bigger bowl, with the nuts on the outside, and the glass inside would be like a candle.  (real or battery.)  So many possibilities!  Just use your imagination and take a look around at all the natural items around!  Even dried ornamental grasses are beautiful, or dried wheat and rye.  Your wedding setting does not sound weird at all.  Best wishes!

  6. for my centrpieces I'm making pyramids of those lindt ball chocolates.

basically all you do is cut out a circle on a piece of card, and build a pyramid using the unwrapped chocolate balls and melted chocolate to glue them together. Then put a few little flowers in your colours in some of the gaps between the balls.

I like your idea of using the dried oat stems. that's a good idea.

also, if you want to use flowers for your centrepieces you don't necessarily have to get them from a florist, but it depends on what you want. If it's simply going to be a vase of flowers in water then you can buy cheap supermarket flowers or get some from the market or even a friend's garden.

Bouquets need to really be bought from a florist because they aren't in water so they need to be made properly in order for them to last all day. But centrepiece flowers won't deteriorate if they're in water, so you can do it cheaply and without a florist.

  7. I don't know where your from, but there is this place called edible arrangements.  They shape real edible fruit into beautiful flower arrangements.  They also have chocolate covered strawberries, bananas, and apples for arrangements.  If you can find one in your area, stop by and look at the arrangements for wedding reception centerpieces.  This way your guests can enjoy "sightfully" and "tastefully" beautiful arrangement on each table.  You can have the same arrangement for each table or do different ones, it up to you.  Besides, their fruit is comensurate with the season.

go to www.ediblearrangements.com and look over their arrangements. I hope this helps and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
