Central Ac Freon Leak Questions?

Question

We just had our freon topped off for the 2nd time this summer, We needed about 1 lb 2 months ago and this time we need 5 lb.

We know we have a leak thats getting worse and we are planning on replacing the system next spring. We just want to get through this summer.

Is there anything i can do that will cause it to not leak as fast. Should i try to find the leak? and if i do should i try to seal it?

I really dont want to pay to get it charged again or leak tested since we are going to replace it before next summer. any help is apreciated.

If I have a freon R22 Leak in my central air system will it get worse by running it or shutting it off due to the pressure in the lines. Had a a/c guy here he said you might as weel run it the leak will be less if it runs all the time
