Question:

Central America rainforest questions?

Which central american country has the nicest rainforest? I am thinking of going to a tourist friendly, relatively safe destination with my girlfriend and I was wondering which rainforest we should visit. I was wondering:

1 Are there rainforests in this destination that have hotels atop canopies (actually in the rainforest)?

2 Is this location safe?

3 Are there things to do in this area such as rainforest tours (english hopefully), canopy gondolas, caves, waterfalls, etc.? Basically we kind of want a true-nature experience.

4 Should a car be rented?

If you could be as specific as possible it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

  1. It's all the same rain forest.  I think Honduras is the most beautiful, but it's not the easiest to access.  I would recommend Costa Rica for you.  It is safe, beautiful, and very accessible to foreigners.  You won't have trouble finding anything you'd like to do there, and it's the only country I'd even consider renting a car in (although you don't need it).

  2. I've been to the Rainforest in Costa Rica.  It's awsome.

However, I recommend the Peruvian Amazon in Iquitos, Peru.  The people are very friendly.  Explorama tours offers so much to do and their accomidations are nice.  It's also not as expensive as Costa Rica.  Your flight might be more expensive though.  amazon@explorama.com

  3. I've read that the roads in Costa Rica are in a pretty bad shape.

  4. costa rica

  5. Brazil.  If you want to know more, then look at wikipedia.com it has lots of links to vacation websites that would have what u r looking for

  6. costa rica's rainforest is well taken care of and is the best rainforest in central america if you want safety and quality costa rica has everything for you in english or in spanish... nicaragua i wouldnt recommend that place its dirtier than dirty my mother in law just got back from there and she came back with a rash and weird stuff coming out of her skin she had to go to the doctor and got antibiotics and other meds to make it go away and its all dirt roads so youll most likely get a cough and get sick from inhailing all that dirt  nicaragua its not that well taken care of and they do have thiefs that stop you and take your money  and they dont have much for tourists and it might be hard or impossible to get a tour in english also they get their electricity shut off for upto 8 hours a day so i dont know if thats something you'd like to experience... so costa rica sounds safer and i offers everything and anything you need in better conditions

  7. I live in Costa Rica.  Haven't been to other rain forest countries, but I guarantee you can find what you are looking for here.  There are beautiful eco-lodges here in the southern zone, but no canopy tours.  I suggest you search "canopy tours Costa Rica"  You'll find lots of info there.

  8. Indio Maíz Biological Reserve in Nicaragua is your best bet for rainforest's in Central America, the Amazon in Brazil for South America. Nicaragua has the 2nd largest rain forest in the Americas.

    1. Well I'm not completely sure about hotels atop canopies.

    2. Very safe, its away the the 'hustle and bustle' of the cities.

    3. Swimming, hiking, bird-watching, coffee tour, horseback riding, ect.

    4. Depends, you might want to consult some of these websites.

Since you'll be entering the jungle via the San Juan River, which connect to Lake Nicaragua, (if you take a tour) I suggest you visit Ometepe; Its a beautiful Island formed by two volcanoes (Concepción and Maderas) rising from Lake Nicaragua and are joined by a low isthmus to form one island, giving it the form of an hourglass. Lake Nicaragua is also home to Solentiname Islands, and Zapatera Island for more info on these islands and Lake Nicaragua go to:
