  1. You don't grow out of it per se, however symptoms lessen as you accommodate for it, and other areas of the brain overdevelop to help compensate for it.  I think that being a teacher with CAPD would not be a problem, if necessary you could wear an amplifier that places your own voice back in your ear, that way there wouldn't be distractions.  Also playing soft music helps

  2. Hi.

It is sometimes possible that as the brain matures, the functioning of the neural systems which create this problem improves too, but sometimes also, this is not the case.  There are things that you can do to try to improve this, what is, after all a distortion of sensory perception.

When sound goes into the ear, it is transmitted to parts of the brain which have several jobs.  Firstly, the task is to send this information to the correct part of the cortex to be dealt with.  The second job is to send the information at the correct intensity, -  This ensures that the cortex recieves it in a form which it can understand.  Thirdly, the task is to cut out or 'mask' any other noises so that the cortex can focus its full attention on the information.

When these brain systems don't do this job correctly, it can be chaos, as I am sure you are aware.  Either you don't hear the message properly, or it's too loud, or it's jumbled up with other sounds, or many other possibilities.

The good news is that you can try to re-tune the brain systems which are causing this problem.  It is sometimes possible to re-train them.

    Hope this helps
