Day 2 of the ongoing Plunket Shield match between the Central Districts Stags and the Auckland Aces saw Carl Cachopa driving the Stags’ innings forward with an unbeaten century, which got the team up to a final total of 430 before they declared. The Stags
then proceeded to apply pressure on the Aces, with Andrew Lamb leading the bowling attack to reduce http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 to 80 for 4 by the end of day 2 at Nelson Park in Napier on November 5.
The match kicked off on November 4, with Auckland winning the toss and electing to field first. The first day was fairly slow for the Stags, and the Aces’ Chris Martin, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-McClenaghan-c1975, and Colin Munro shared the spoils between them, picking up one
scalp each.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-Cachopa-c49207 was the next batsman to step up to the crease, but only managed to post
an unbeaten 38 by the end of day 1.
How was bowled by Munro in the 24th over, and followed to the crease by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Sinclair-c2029 (22), who joined Cachopa for a 47-run stand. Their combined efforts got the team up to 118 by the 45th over, after which Sinclair fell prey to Chris
Martin. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Noema-Barnett-c71440 (4*) proceeded to joined Cachopa at the crease, and by the end of day 1, the Stags had managed to reach 130 for 3.
The second day saw Cachopa coming out in full force, and registering a massive unbeaten 179. Noema-Barnett also brought his individual score up to 26, and the partnership between the two batsmen yielded 57 runs before the skipper was dislodged by Michael
Bates.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 (45) was the next to step up to the crease, and teamed up with Cachopa for an 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Their efforts got the team up to 256 by the 87th over, after which McClenaghan (27-4-107-3)
intervened to take http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk out of the game.
Will Young followed him soon after, bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295 (25-10-49-2) after a mere 6-run contribution. The remaining batsmen managed to chip in with useful contributions – Doug Bracewell scored 25 before he was caught and bowled by McClenaghan, while Tarun
Nethula (33) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bruce-Edward-Martin-c48703 (23.3-2-97-2). By the 120th over, with 9 wickets down, the Stags declared their innings at 430.
Auckland’s innings did not get off to an ideal start, with Lamb (8-2-33-3) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out for an unbeaten 17 off 65,
but the remainder of the batting order fell like dominoes. The 6th over saw Lamb claiming the wickets of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anaru-Kitchen-c1032 (0), leaving the Aces at 14 for 3.
Bracewell followed it up by trapping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GJ-Hopkins-c1490 (27*) at the crease, the Aces managed to reach 80 for 4 by stumps on day 2.
