Central Districts v Auckland – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Recap
The Central Districts’ intense bowling attack limited http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 to low totals which the Stags then went on to chase down with ease, securing a 4-wicket win over the Aces in their first-class match during the ongoing Plunket Shield, at the Nelson Park in Napier.
The game commenced on November 4, with the Auckland Aces winning the toss and choosing to field first. However, their bowling attack was unable to limit the Central Districts Stags to a low total, and despite the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-McClenaghan-c1975 (27-4-107-3),
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295 (25-10-49-2), and Bruce Martin (23.3-2-97-2), the Stags posted a substantial first innings total of 430.
In addition to the contributions of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-Cachopa-c49207 continued his superb form by striking yet another century, an unbeaten 179 around which the Stags’ innings hinged. The team eventually
declared at 430 for 9 on day 2.
The Stags then proceeded to launch an effective bowling attack, which restricted the Aces, all out, to a first innings total of 210. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Robert-Lamb-c44584 (20-5-65-4) led the charge, and was supported in his efforts by Nethula (12-3-30-3) and Doug Bracewell (14-1-57-2).
The Aces’ top-scorer was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GJ-Hopkins-c1490 (35) remained the only other batsmen of note.
Following on, the Aces seemed in danger of repeating the dismal performance during their second innings, with Nethula (28-3-67-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lou-Vincent-c73143 and Reece Young both contributed 8 runs
each before they were sent back to the pavilion, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anaru-Kitchen-c1032 (60), and skipper Hopkins (41) managed decent scores but were unable to carry them further. The Aces eventually
finished the third day at 210 for 7.
The final day of play saw Munro (103) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947 (59) digging their heels in for a massive 133-run partnership for the 8th wicket. The combined effort resulted in the Aces reaching 326, after which Munro was sent packing by Bracewell. He
was followed to the crease by McClenaghan (11*), who set up a 34-run partnership with Bates.
Bates was eventually undone by Mathieson, and Chris Martin (1) followed soon after, trapped lbw by Nethula. The Aces were eventually all out for 365, setting the Stags a 146-run target – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777, however, found themselves up to the challenge of
the chase, and a handful of solid partnerships saw them home safely, despite the efforts of Bruce Martin (15.2-4-44-3) and McClenaghan (16-2-55-3).
A 51-run opening partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Noema-Barnett-c71440 (14*) and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 (13*), saw the Stags safely to 149 with 4 wickets remaining.
