Central Districts v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829 – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update – CD Stags win by 10 wickets
A stellar batting performance during their first innings, followed by 5-wicket hauls from Adam Milne and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-William-Mathieson-c44639, enabled the Central Districts Stags to secure a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the Otago Volts in their Plunket Shield match, played
from November 26 to 29 at the McLean Park in Napier.
Otago won the toss on day one, and chose to field first, but the Stags proved near unstoppable during their first innings, with the Volts’ Blair Soper (26-3-116-3), Ian Butler (33.2-2-132-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Neesham-c1697 (30-6-96-2) and Jacob Duffy (28-5-89-2) proving
powerless to restrict the opposition.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Benjamin-Francis-Smith-c47660
(10) failing to contribute much - however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 (30) managed to join Cachopa for a 55-run partnership for the 5th wicket.
Coming in at number 8, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tarun-Nethula-c2647 (108) bolstered the innings in a major way, and teamed up with Cachopa for a 122-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Cachopa was soon sent packing, but the lower order appeared to be on a roll, and Adam Milne
(97) joined Nethula for an 8th-wicket stand worth 133 runs.
Tail-enders http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Robert-Lamb-c44584 (14) and Andrew Mathieson (11*) also chipped in with decent contributions, and by the time the Stags were all out on day two, they had managed to post a sizeable first innings total of 476.
During their first innings, the Volts found themselves severely troubled by Milne (14-2-47-5), Trego (21-6-57-3), and Lamb (16.5-6-40-2), succumbing, all out, at 257. The top-order – comprising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Gordon-Bracewell-c75912
(0) – were all insipid, and the performances of middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IG-Butler-c1575 (73*) were the only saving grace for Otago.
Asked to follow on, the Volts stepped up to the crease for a second time, but once again failed to register a competitive performance. The 120-run opening partnership between Redmond (57) and Rutherford (55) was the highlight of the team’s innings, and the
assaults of Mathieson (20-9-39-5), Cachopa (13-6-28-3), and Raval (17-7-32-2) limited Otago, all out, to 239.
Set a target of 21-runs, the Stags wrapped up the victory within 5 overs, with openers Raval (14*) and How (5*) teaming up to guide http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 to an easy 10-wicket win.
