Central Districts v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 – HRV Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update – Wellington demolish CDs by 55 runs
A blistering half-century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 Stags, in their T20 match during the ongoing HRV Cup, played at the McLean Park in Napier on December 7.
The Stags won the toss and elected to field first, but their bowlers were unable to apply much of a check on the opposition’s batsmen, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394, and Adam Milne all managing to pick up just one wicket each.
Opening for the Firebirds, Jesse Ryder played a blitz of an innings, smashing 75 off just 26 balls, including 6 sixes and 9 fours. He was joined by fellow opener Michael Pollard (28) for a 105-run opening partnership, which came to an end with the dismissal of Ryder off Mathieson in the 8th over, followed by the departures of Pollard and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Papps-c1961 (0) in the very next over.
The remainder of the innings was driven by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Ronchi-c73300 was unable to make much of an impression, and was sent packing by Cachopa after a mere 15-run contribution. However, Grant Elliott (50) joined Franklin for a solid 83-run stand for the fifth wicket.
By the time Elliott was dislodged by Milne in the final over, the score had reached 207, and Franklin got the team up to a final total of 214 by the end of 20 overs.
Chris Woakes (4-0-27-3) and Dane Hutchinson (3-0-34-2) then proceeded to successfully defend the massive total their team had racked up, aided by one-wicket contributions from Elliott, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Woodcock-c1860, and Scott Kuggeleijn.
Most of the Stags' batsmen were able to get starts, but failed to capitalise on them. Will Young top-scored for the team with 34, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Sinclair-c2029 (21) was the only other batsman who succeeded in passing the 20-run mark. The Firebirds’ bowlers picked the Stags batsmen up one by one, and by the 19th over, succeeded in bowling them out for 159, going on to secure a comprehensive 55-run win.
