Central Districts v Wellington – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update
Twin centuries from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 Stags in their Plunket Shield match, played from October 28 to 31 at the Nelson Park in Napier.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-Cachopa-c49207
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Sinclair-c2029.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jeet-Raval-c1685 both contributed 11 runs each before both were sent back to the pavilion, the former by Gillespie, and the latter by Dane Hutchinson. However, Carl Cachopa (105) and Mathew Sinclair (143) steadied the innings in a big way,
and set up a 224-run stand for the third wicket. Cachopa was finally dislodged by Woodcock, but Sinclair went on to set up a 57-run stand with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Noema-Barnett-c71440 (34).
The remainder of the batting order chipped in with mediocre contributions, and the Stags decided to declare their innings at 383, with 8 wickets down, on Day 2.
Wellington were unable to match up to their opponents during their first innings. Jesse Ryder anchored the innings with an unbeaten 117, and was aided in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Joseph-Murdoch-c91153 (48), and Mark Gillespie (38). However, the
Stags’ Ben Wheeler (3/68), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tarun-Nethula-c2647 (2/58) all managed to keep the Firebirds in check, and on Day 3, Wellington found themselves all out at 340.
Central Districts went on to further solidify their position during their second innings, and aided by half-tons from Noema-Barnett (60) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 (85), posted a total of 298, setting the Firebirds a target of 342.
However, Ryder (174) and Woodcock (69*) emerged as the star performers for Wellington. Ryder followed up his 63-run partnership for the third wicket with Michael Pollard (24) with a massive 167-run 5th-wicket stand with Woodcock. After Ryder’s
dismissal at the hands of Cachopa, Woodcock carried on, and his unbeaten 64-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Ronchi-c73300 (36*) got Wellington safely up to 343 with 5 wickets remaining on the final day.
