Do CHL players get paid to play hockey? if yes, how much?

Do OHL players get paid to play hockey? if yes, how?

What is the purpose of the CHL? Is it equal to the OHL?

Here I think I got the hockey leagues and routes figured out, but I am confused about the CHL and how does it compare to OHL and/or AHL?

  1. Whatever the first guy said, but there's also another branch under the NHL where you can get demoted down to the AHL and then down again to the ECHL. There's probably another league below that one, but I can't remember.

  2. The CHL is made up from the three canadian leagues : OHL OMJHL and the WHL

  3. Minor league hockey is a little different than, say, baseball.

The Central Hockey League is something like Double A baseball. Most prospects would go to the American Hockey League, and then hope for a ticket to the big leagues.

But that doesn't happen very often. Mostly, the CHL has guys who just are playing hockey to make some money. It's like the ECHL in that sense. Some are drafted, some are just free agents. They come from Europe, junior ranks, colleges, etc. They would be older than OHL players.

Salaries would be pretty low, although I can't quote numbers. A few hundred per week probably would be right.
