Central York boys volleyball team defeats North Allegheny by 3-1 on Saturday
Central York boys volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to North Allegheny in the final of the Class AAA championship that took place on Saturday.
The match went on for four long and thrilling sets with the following set scores: 25-17, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-21.
Once the celebrations started at the Multi-Sport Facility of Penn State University, it took a long time for the Panthers to stop as Central York had worked hard all season to achieve the championship title. The team had been practicing before and after school
for several weeks in order to be competitive enough to beat their peers and bag the trophy.
Brad Livingston, who is the head coach of Central York and has been associated with the program for the last nine years made the following comments about his team performance at the end of the match, “I don't think there is any question that it was a total
team effort. When Spence (Ortmyer) started doing some things offensively and Wes (Richardson)...he had one h**l of a tournament. The d-specs (Aaron Goodyear and Justin Burke) played lights out.”
The start of the first set of the match went well for the Panthers as they were successful in putting the pressure on North Allegheny by taking control. The Panthers did not relax until they had the lead at 10-5 which was accomplished by going on a couple
of short runs. Once they had the lead for themselves, the Panthers did not look back and kept on extending their advantage. All the Tigers could do was to trail behind while the Panthers marched on to win the opening set of the game at 25-17.
Capitalising on the momentum built in the first set, the Panthers took the lead early on in the second set as well. However, the Tigers were able to close in the gap at 17-11. The match was still close at 24-23 but the Panthers were the ones that sealed
the deal at 25-23.
It was only in the third set that the Tigers were able to win at 25-18 as the fourth and the final one was bagged by the Panthers at 25-21.
Both the attack as well as the defence of the Panthers was working in sync to keep the pressure on North Allegheny all through the match. Despite the team effort, some players stood more prominent than the rest. Paul Kuhn was able to post the highest number
of kills for Central by making 16 of them. He also contributed by making four points on service aces.
Kuhn was supported by his teammate Wes Richardson, who made his presence felt by registering nine kills and an ace. Richardson was also able to make two blocks. Other then Kuhn and Richardson, Kyle Wisner kept the scoreboard ticking by making eight kills
of his own which were supported by two blocks.
