Central York boys volleyball team defeats Red Lions in a clean sweep on Wednesday
The Central York boys volleyball team had a chance to prove their worth yet again on Wednesday.
The team was up against the Red Lions in what promised to be a competitive match between the two teams. However, the Red Lions did not succeed in putting up a considerable challenge to the Panthers and lost to them in three back-to-back sets.
Despite the fact that the Panthers won the match in a clean sweep, their coach, Brad Livingston was not much impressed by the performance his team was able to put up. Once the match reached its close, Livingston said, “I didn't think we were very good at
all tonight. There wasn't a lot of energy on the court. And we didn't seem like we were emotionally involved in the game, and I have to give a little bit of credit to Red Lion for that, because perhaps they took us out of it a little bit.”
Even though the Red Lions could not win any set of the match, they did compete each one vigorous. At no point in the game, were the Panthers made to feel too relaxed or get too comfortable. This is shown by the final set scores that the scoreboard showed
once the match had culminated. The set scores of the match stood at 25-22, 25-18, 25-23, translating a Panther win.
As soon as the first set of the match started, Central was able to take the lead. Spurred on by the cheers of their home crowd, the Panthers kept the advantage with themselves until the middle of the game at 19-9.
The Red Lions did not let the huge deficit work against them and put on a spurt of speed that enabled them to close in the gap at 24-22. However, their speed did not allow the Red Lions to reach the final point which ended up with the Panthers as they won
the first set at 25-22.
The second set also saw the Panthers take the lead early on but the Red Lions did not let Central get too far with their advantage. The Panthers still had the lead in the middle of the game at 18-14, but they also had the Red Lions staying close.
However, the Panthers were able to shake the Red Lions off by an impressive show of volleyball that took them to a lead of 21-14, and eventually, to win the set at 25-18.
The third set of the match unfolded along the same lines as the second set except that the Red Lions were able to trail behind the Panthers all the way to the end. In the end however, the Panthers sealed the deal by bagging what became the final set of the
game at 25-23.
Next in line for the Panthers is a match scheduled to be played on Tuesday.
