Central York defeats Council Rock North Indians 3-1 in PIAA boys volleyball playoffs - Volleyball
Council Rock North Indians boys volleyball eliminated Central York North in the PIAA boys volleyball playoffs after winning 3-1 on May 31.
The District One champions were unable to outperform the third ranked team from District Three and could only secure a win in the second set of the game. It seemed as if CRN had lost heart in the third and the fourth set as they were not able to put up a
significant competition against Central York. Central York romped to a 25-23, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-20 victory.
Central York will be advancing in to the quarter-finals round supporting a total of 18 overall season wins at the cost of suffering just two defeats. The quarter-final is scheduled to take place on Friday and the Panthers will be locking horns with Penn
State in an effort to secure themselves a seat in the semi-finals. In case Central York makes it to the top two positions in Pool B, it will qualify for Saturday’s semi-final match.
Susan Kim, the coach for Central Rock North, said after the game, “We knew it wouldn’t be easy, that it would be point for point and wasn’t going to end in three. Our blocking was just not there tonight. It’s definitely disappointing. We set goals and accomplished
a lot of them, but fell a little bit short.”
When the first set of the match started off, CRN came in with all the energies and took the lead early on at 17-13. However, Central York was in no mood to be dictated to and responded by putting on a spurt of points by going on a 6-0 run that gave the Panthers
the lead. Once they had the advantage, Central York did not look back and stopped only when they had won the first set of the game at 25-23.
Losing the first set of the game did not sit down well with CRN who stepped up their play and made a visible effort to challenge the dominant position of their opponents. After a tough struggle between the Panthers and CRN, Council Rock was finally able
to tie the match by winning the second set at 25-23.
Unfortunately for CRN, the second set was the only time that they could savour a win as the next two sets were taken by the Panthers pretty smoothly at 25-15 and 25-20 respectively.
Central North lineup did a good job overall but their stand out for the night was Dan Ford who scored seven kills, 10 digs as well as 25 assists for his team.
