The four-day match in the Bangladesh Cricket League, has taken an interesting twist with both sides (Central Zone and South Zone) matching each other’s performances in batting and bowling, at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
At stumps, on the second day of play between the two teams, Central Zone trail by 133 runs with seven wickets remaining in the first innings after smacking 210 runs in reply to 343 posted by South Zone.
After bowling out their opposition a day earlier, Central Zone began their innings with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robiul-Islam-c86349, who trapped Asif Ahmed in front of stumps after the batsman had scored 19 runs off 19 deliveries.
With the opening pair neutralized, South Zone needed to grab a few more wickets in order to enforce their dominance.
However, Central Zone’s second-wicket partnership between Shamsur Rahman and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Ashraful-c76740 took the score to 72, before this collaboration between the batsmen also met its end on the wicket of Ashraful, who perished after bolstering only ten runs.
With two wickets down, there was still room for South Zone to make a strong comeback; however, it was not their day as Shamsur Rahman was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marshall-Ayub-c74819 to continue the batting onslaught, keeping the bowling side on the back foot.
Finally, after taking the score to 147, Rahman was snapped up by Sohag Gazi after crafting an inspiring knock of 84 runs.
Marshall Ayub and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877 then led another charge as they continued the onslaught, exerting more pressure on the bowlers.
With 210 on the board, and Marshall Ayub on 65 alongside Mahmudullah (20), Central Zone finished the day for the loss of three wickets.
They now need to keep their heads tomorrow and continue their batting resurgence in order to beat the massive score posted by their rivals.
South Zone, however, would be looking to make early inroads to end Central Zone’s innings before stumps.
