Central Zone’s B Kumar earned his side an upset victory against North Zone by hammering an astounding first innings knock of 128 in the match that was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
After North Zone amassed a staggering total of 451 in their first innings, they had the game in their hands and were least expecting a defeat on Wednesday, where they were completely outplayed by their opponents.
The day started with Central Zone resuming their first innings from an overnight tally of 442 for nine.
Caught in a tight spot, Central Zone were still behind North’s first innings lead and with the last pair in the middle, North new they had their opponents walking a fine line.
Nonetheless, RR Singh who had knocked 21 runs on day-three, hammered 39 before Central Zone crumbled on 469 on the demise of their saviour Kumar, who fell after smashing 128 runs.
Losing their lead, North had also lost their advantage of winning the match on the basis of their first innings score. They now needed to score quick and big in order to hold on to a – now distant victory.
Openers R Dewan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Dhawan-c2392 staged a stand of 75 before the latter was trapped in front of stumps by Kartik on 37.
The arrival of N Saini also brought a steady decline in their scoring rate, where although this partnership took the score to 129, the side lost pace in the innings.
R Dewan was the highlight of North’s second innings, as he hammered 80 runs off 125 deliveries before losing his wicket to B Kumar.
While he was the highest scorer from his side, he certainly took enough time to cost his side a possible win today.

With N Saini on an unbeaten knock of 38, North managed to reach 187 runs before declaring the innings, giving their opposition a target of 170 to win.
Central Zone then scored 39 runs for the loss of one wicket before the end of the final day.
