Question:

Central air blowing cool (not cold) air - recent power outage?

We had terrible storms last week Wednesday and did not regain power until last night. We had a generator hooked up -but of course did not use our central air. We turned our air on this evening and it's blowing cool, but not cold air. It was a warm day today, 80+ but we didn't run the air until this evening. All is clean. We did need a recharge last summer. Would the power outage have anything to do with it or is it just a coincidence? The unit is about 12 years old.

  1. first check thermostat

  2. HVAC TECH. :  you DON'T SAY IF OUTSIDE UNIT RUNNING OR NOT. check breaker/ fuses for outside unit. if still not running call technician to check capacitors, compressor, and fan motor. With that kind of age on the unit may be time to replace it rather than fix it. Good luck!!

  3. Check your thermostat first  . If it is digital it may need to be reprogrammed . The next scenerio could be the compressor I am sorry to say . Lets hope it is your thermostst . Good luck . .MJ

  4. My guess would be just a coincidence.  Usually losing power doesn't do anything, its just like the unit cycling off.  It hurts the system when the power turns off and then right back on, your compressor could go out on overload but you said you had if off for a few days that should have had time too cool off and close the points inside.  If you have a refrigerant leak you need to get your unit replaced, it will cost you in the long run. Majority of the time the entire system will need to be replaced, and ducts need to be inspected.

  5. did you check your thermostat? maybe it needs to be reprogrammed

  6. could of blown thew compressor

i would phone a airconditioner repair man and ask
