Central air problem?

my compressor fan (out side) is turning very slow so i know it is either my motor or the capacitor how do i find out witch one it is? and how do i discharge the capacitor?

  1. If I were you I would call a professional.  You don't want to accidentally discharge the Freon or something like that.  I repair things all day long this is one thing where a service call it well worth it.


  2. If the motor is hot, then it is most likely on the verge of going out. you may be able to save it by adding oil to the oil port. Usually when a capacitor goes it just goes and the fan will quit and the capacitor is usually swollen.

  3. replace the capacitor and the motor they usually give you one with a new motor as far as discharging one just take a wire and run from one led to ground and same on other but mqake sure power to unit is off there usally is a plug you can pull on the box right before your condensing unit
