Centralinteligence sound after coming out of Malibu Stakes says co-owner Bob Feld
There must have been concerns about Centralinteligence’s health when he was working for the lead in the Grade 1, $300,000 Malibu Stakes and gave way badly in the stretch to finish last under jockey Joel Rosario in the field of 10.
According to co-owner Bob Feld, the 3-year-old Ronald W. Ellis trained, Centralinteligence, came out of the $300,000 event in good shape. He went through a little test when trainer Ron Ellis jogged him and he did fine, looked sound,
and next in line for him is an allowance race.
Centralinteligence will walk for a week and then he will start his light training building up for the allowance test which will include jogging.
“We went from being in front to being eliminated, so that was very disappointing. It’s hard to say what happened for sure, but Hoorayforhollywood was outside of us and he came in and it looked like our horse shied from that. It looked
like Joel (Rosario) took hold of him and at that point, he threw his head and we got shuffled way back.
The Kentucky bred son of Smarty Jones, out of mare Shootforthestars by Seattle Slew, Centralinteligence prior to the Malibu Stakes finished a solid second place finish to winner Smash in an allowance race at Hollywood Park on 27
November, 2011.
He has been good at sprint, breaking his maiden at six and a half furlongs over Hollywood Park’s cushion track on 16 July, 2011.
He was pointed toward another sprint at Santa Anita Park, an allowance race which he managed to win going over a distance of six furlongs on dirt on 30 September, 2011.
The Malibu Stakes attracted a crowd of 44,579 and despite losing the race when they should’ve won, Bob Feld was overwhelmed with the crowd that showed up for the Grade 1 event.
“It was a phenomenal day,” said Feld. “At this point in my life, and I’ve been coming here for more than 40 years, I do remember the glory days and this was just like that. I haven’t seen that many cars in the infield parking lot
in many years. Everywhere I went, the place was just jammed and people were having a great time.”
