Centre Court lands the Mrs. Revere Stakes as the 3 to 2 favourite
Exiting a couple of runner-up finishes on 19 August and 13 October, G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s sophomore filly, Centre Court bounced back with an amazing victory in the Grade 2, $202,175 Mrs. Revere Stakes under the Churchill lights on 17 November, 2012.
Doing justice to her 3 to 2 favourite tag, Centre Court extended her Churchill Downs record to a perfect 3 for 3 on the Churchill Downs’ turf course, and it was her second graded stakes victory over the Louisville turf.
Carrying top weight of 120 pounds, Centre Court went on to defeat 11 other rivals in the 1 1/16 mile event, as she went on to cover the distance in 1 minute and 42.54 seconds. Under jockey Julien Leparoux, the pair dominated competition, when they drew away for a decisive 2 length victory.
Trained by George Arnold II, Centre Court posted her third graded stakes victory of the 2012 season, as the three-year-old filly under confident handling from Julien Leparoux in their fourth consecutive start together.
"I rode her like she was the (3-2) favorite. "She kicked on very nice at the end and won pretty easy. When I asked her, she kicked away and I knew that if someone could beat me at that point it would have been a very good filly."
It was Julien Leparoux, who guided Acoma to victory to win the 2008 edition of the Mrs. Revere Stakes, and last year he did it for the second time with Marketing Mix.
Prior to the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes victory, Centre Court finished as a runner-up twice, in her last two starts, starting from the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga to winner, Stephanie’s Kitten, and then in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keenealnd to, Dayatthespa.
The three-year-old filly by Smart Strike was cut back into distance to 1 1/16 miles, as she ran at 1 1/8 miles both in the Lake Placid and the QE II Challenge Cup.
Centre Court has landed 4 out of 9 career starts, with four second place finishes, and a lone fifth place finish, that too on dirt in her debut race.
