Centre Gavin Henson targets Welsh return
Welsh centre Gavin Henson believes that Wales’ poor form in the Autumn Internationals has increased his chances of making it into the Welsh squad for the Six Nations and the World Cup next year.
The British and Irish Lion has not played for Wales for 20 months, after the player took an extended break from the game.
However, the utility back has now returned to train with Saracens and he is hoping to play his first competitive match for the Aviva Premiership side by the end of the year.
The player, who is currently taking part in the BBC television programme Strictly Come Dancing,
was delighted that the Welsh coach Warren Gatland was eager for him to return.
The coach admitted that he was looking forward to Henson’s return after Wales’ poor Autumn International Series in which they failed to win a single game. "It's nice he's [Gatland] thinking about me [for the Six Nations]. Hopefully that's the plan. Obviously
I'm with Saracens now so I'm doing my rugby training as well,” Henson told BBC Wales.
Henson admitted that his training was going well and that he was targeting a return to the national side for the Six Nations."I'm feeling good. I'm not too far off the pace so before the end of the year I should be playing and hopefully get a couple of games
in before the Six Nations and I suppose the boys haven't done too well so I've probably got a good chance of getting back in there."
The centre has admitted that he has returned to rugby in order to play in the World Cup in New Zealand next year. "It's always been in my plan, in my diary to try and get back into the Six Nations, to do well and go on to the World Cup."
Wales are expected to pick the talented back in order to bolster their back line for the Six Nations and World Cup, but Henson will have to prove his fitness before he returns.
