Centre fielder Curtis Granderson ready to face free agency path – MLB Update
New York Yankees centre fielder Curtis Granderson knows when a player experiences free agency in his career. Though he is sure that his free agency will happen in after the next Major League Baseball season but still he is preparing hard to get it through with ease.
Granderson’s next year will be his last on contract with the New York Yankees while after the 2013 MLB season, he will be available in next year’s free agent market.
“Especially with this team being the way it has been, historically, the talks of extending guys out before the end typically isn’t their M.O,” the outfielder said yesterday of the Yankees, after visiting P.S. 39 in Staten Island to help students affected by Superstorm Sandy.
He added with more detail and explained in the media, “If it happens, we’ll address it as that time comes. But I’m just excited to play this year, and then, once we get to the end, we’ll take it at that point.”
This year, during the season, the Yankees general manager Brian Cashman made some clear points in the media that the team is hopeful for their potential players’ contract reviews. It is somehow possible that Yankees might re-sign their potential players who are going to hit free agency in the next year.
Cashman said, “It’s baseball being baseball, You run through some spurts where you get hot and cold. Unfortunately, I got cold at the wrong time. It’s one of those things where it’s not the first time it’ll happen, it’s not the last time it’ll happen.”
Robinson Cano is another Yankees player who will hit free agency next season while still both players stay hopeful that their long time baseball side will be considering re-signing them.
Granderson and Cano showed good performances last season. Granderson went hitting with .232 along with 43 home runs, 106 RBIs and .319 OBP. Overall he possesses .262 hitting average along with 210 home runs, 591 RBIs and .341 OBP.
Meanwhile, Cano also performed well in the recent past season and went hitting at .313 along with 33 home runs, 94 RBIs and .379 OBP.
