The team amassed 504 runs for the loss of nine wickets, courtesy two brilliant tons by Kane Williamson and Alex Gidman. The innings was declared shortly after the score went past 500.
The pitch was perfect for batting and the visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexander-Peter-Richard-Gidman-c43250, elected to bat first without any hesitation. There were some showers on the first day’s play, but didn’t trouble the Gloucestershire batsmen.
Gloucestershire’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Cockbain-c63756, was dismissed, unable to make an impression. He went for a duck. This was not the start what the visitors were looking for, but things started to get better for them as the match progressed.
Promising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-George-Coughtrie-c85003 and the pair put together 75 runs for the second wicket. The latter was unable to capitalize on the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 26 runs to

Gloucestershire were 88 for three at that stage and things looked bad for the team. However, the Kiwi player played some solid cricket and didn’t lose focus. He got good support from his skipper and the pair amassed a brilliant partnership of 196 runs for
the fourth wicket.
Williamson’s innings finally came to an end after he collected 149 runs off 264 deliveries. The stylish right-hander did struggle in the earlier part of his innings however, but managed to hold things together in the end. He struck 23 fours in his classy
knock and got a standing ovation from the crowd.
Gidman played a captains knock, scoring 168 runs in his valiant effort. He smashed 17 fours and one massive six to become the top scorer in the innings. He came out when his team was in a spot of bother, but played exceptionally well, leading from the front.
