Centurion Al upsets Dazzlem Billy in the 500m Grade HP Heat at Sheffield on Jan 9

The son of Droopys Vieri out of Fast Issue, Centurion Al, has emerged as champion in the 500 meter long Grade HP greyhound race at Sheffield on Monday, January 9, 2012.
It was a comfortable victory for the black hound, as the difference between the top two contestants was 0.14 second. Trained by M A P O'donnell, the victor was standing in the second trap, when the officials kicked off the race.
His starting price was 3 to 1, and he justified his odds as one of the favourites by producing an excellent race. By covering the area in 31.49 seconds, the hound wrested the cash prize of £89.
He was followed by the most favourite, Dazzlem Billy – the dog with the odds of 2 to 1. The son of Razldazl Billy out of Drive On Sara, commenced the show from the fifth gate, and crossed the wire in 31.63 seconds.
Although, M Wainwright’s trained hound could not challenge the winner, he sealed the second place after putting in a lot of effort. Another black & white hound, Pass Inspection, ran pretty well and took a real test of, Dazzlem Billy’s abilities.
With the covering time of 31.64 seconds, the son of Premier Fantasy out of Back On Song, was just 0.01 second behind the runner up. His odds were 5 to 2, as he began the heat from the trap number four.
By a slight deficiency of 0.02 second, Runaround Ronnie, trained by M Wainwright, could not finish third. With the winning chances of 7 to 2, he started the race from the first box, and touched the finish line in 31.66 seconds.
The last two contestants did not produce anything special. The son of Droopys Scholes out of Glenske Frisky, Glenske Scholes, could only manage to grab the fifth slot by covering the distance in 31.86 seconds. His odds were 6 to 1, equal to Selby Speed,
who finished last in the list. Trained by N Melbourne, the son of Ballymac Maeve out of Rose Hannah, made it to the final line in 32.06 seconds.
It was a very good comeback by Centurion Al. After exiting third in his previous race, the hound regained his momentum and registered his first success this year.
