Centurion Malcolm Lake disappointed with Zimbabwe U-19 defeat – Cricket News Update
After having scored an impressive 118 which eventually went in vain as his side conceded a 63-run defeat to the India Under-19s during the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012, Zimbabwe Under-19 all-rounder Malcolm Lake claimed that while he was excited about
his century, the fact that the team lost in the end was disappointing.
"It's definitely my highest score," Lake said. "It's up there with the best I've batted for my team, just sad we couldn't get over the line [in] the end."
The 18-year-old left-hander, who also serves as a right-arm medium-pacer for his side, kicked off the ICC U-19 World Cup with a duck against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045’s first match of the tournament, which Lake’s team went on to win by a
massive 104-run margin at the Endeavour Park in Townsville.
However, their second match, played against the India U-19s at the Tony http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium in Townsville, saw Lake coming out in full force, to smash a career-best 118.
The match kicked off with solid performances from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 Passi dismissing the top four batsmen by the 12th
over, leaving the team at 30 for 4.
Lake emerged as his team’s saving grace, contributing 118 off 107 (including 10 fours and 5 sixes), in addition to establishing a 5th wicket 87-run stand with Luke Jongwe (29).
"In the beginning with Luke, [we wanted to] just knock it around, get ourselves into a position from where we can expand later, from where we can hit and get the big shots away," Lake revealed. "Near the end I just wanted a partner. I was excited about the
hundred but just sad we didn't get over the line."
Jongwe found himself run out in the 32nd over, after which Lake was unable to find a consistent batsman to partner with. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 Light (1), Nyasha Mayavo (8), Peacemore Zimwa (3), and Kyle Bowie (0) were all dismissed without putting up much
of a fight, and despite Lake’s efforts, Passi claimed his wicket in the 45th over, with Zimbabwe finishing at 198, all out.
