Ceramic tiles how thick

Im going to lay ceramic/porcelain tiles in my kitchen does anyone know how thick they should be as in depth as im wondering if this effects quality etc?

  1.   Thickness can be a minor concern but the biggest concern is the proper underlayment .. Most cases need  a properly installed 1/2 " cement board. . 1/2 to 5 /16 th is normal but a better quility tile is generaly 3/8.. This is a norm but the actual quaility  is the real test.. Check tinsel (breakage) and ohm ( scratch resistants) ratings as comparison.. Wear  rating (classifcation) and that should be a "3" at minimum for the normal homeowner.. GL


  2. Yes, cheap ones are a little thinner and the nicer ones are a little thicker.  Also make sure your kitchen can support the weight of the tiles.  I know someone floor that collapse because they replaced laminate with tiles and didn't think about the weight difference.

  3. Usually about 8mm but can vary. Thicker is generally better.
