Cermak/Polasek defeats Kas/Peya to clinch the doubles titles – Suisse Open Gstaad 2011
Top seeded pair of Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek of Slovakia stood victorious against the number two seed duo of Christopher Kas from Germany and Alexander Peya of Austria, in the in the enthralling doubles
final of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad on Sunday afternoon.
The contest took place on the clay courts of the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland, with Cermak and Polasek winning the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 championship title in style. The top seeded
duo wrapped up victory in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(7), taking one hour and twenty three minutes of play to overcome their competitors in the matchup.
The second seeded team of Kas and Peya were off to a sloppy start in the contest to drop the opening set early but posed some serious resistance in the second set before losing the game. Only one serve break was registered in the
entire matchup, which came from the racquets of Cermak and Polasek in the opening set.
The top seeded pair dominated most segments of the game and gave away minimum opportunities to their competitors to have their impact upon the game. Cermak and Polasek’s serve precision remained merely 56 per cent and they coughed
seven double faults in the matchup. Kas and Peya failed to capitalise upon their opponents’ mistakes and keep on squandering opportunities en route to defeat.
Cermak and Polasek were off to a flying start in the Sunday’s final and broke their opponents’ serve in their first game to race to a 3-0 lead early in the contest. Thy secures 10 out of 16 first serve points in the opener and
successfully defended the three break points they faced from Kas and Peya. The second seeded duo failed to recover from the early damage they suffered from the break point conversion from Cermak and Polasek and remained on the back foot for the rest of the
set.
Kas and Peya held their serve in the remaining games of the opener but the early deficit caused them to drop the first set at 3-6 to let the top seeded duo one up in the contest. The second seeded pair uplifted their game in the
second set and fought neck-to-neck to drag the first set to the tie breaker round. Cermak and Polasek cashed in a vital opportunity in the decider and nailed a crucial mini-break to conclude victory at 7-6(7) to bag the doubles title at Suisse Open Gstaad.
