Cermak/Polasek overrun Berlocq/Marrero to capture the Moscow crown – Kremlin Cup 2011
Number one seed duo of Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek of Serbia bagged its third doubles championship title of the running season after defeating the unseeded pair of Carlos Berlocq of Argentina and David
Marrero of Spain in the final of the Kremlin Cup on Sunday evening.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia, with the 11th ranked duo displaying its belligerent form once again to claim the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World
Tour 250 title. Cermak and Polasek took merely 54 minutes of play to wrap up victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to come out as the winner in the doubles event.
Berlocq and Marrero played brilliant tennis throughout the tournament to make it to the final but failed to put any serious resistance to the furry of the top seeded duo in the big match. Their game play clearly lacked the required
coordination and they stood no chance against Cermak and Polasek in the contest.
The top seeded pair was off to a flying start in the opening set and then carried on its demolition job in the following set to drive their opponents out of the competition with the utmost ease. Cermak and Polasek are running 27-10
winning record this year and bagged their third championship title in doubles encounters.
"We've had a great season so far," expressed Polasek. "We hope we can continue like this in our last three events in St. Petersburg, Valencia and Paris."
"We did not expect to have such a good week here,” revealed Cermak after winning the title. “It feels great to have won my 26th title."
The winning pair delivered 71 per cent of its serve on target and reeled off 24 out of 35 first serve points en route to victory. Cermak and Polasek converted four of their five break opportunities in the matchup to cause serious
damage to their opponents, who utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire contest. Berlocq and Marrero squandered away five break opportunities in the match to remain at the disadvantage and never appeared in control of the contest. They
didn’t drop a single set to reach the final of the Kremlin Cup but couldn’t repeat the similar feat in the big match, losing to the top seeded opponents in straight sets.
Cermak and Polasek took off the opening set with two cracking serve breaks and got 1-0 in the contest in no time. They nailed two more serve breaks in the next set and sealed out victory at 6-1 to lift the trophy in Moscow.
