Certificate of Credible Coverage?

Can someone explain this to me?

"Such and Such has issued this certificate as evidence of your prior health coverage.

You may need to furnish this certificate if you become eligible under a group health plan that excludes coverage for medical conditions you had before you enroll, if medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment is recommended or received for the condition during the 6 months before you enroll in the new plan.

You may also need this certificate to establish your right o buy coverage for yourself or your family with no exclusion for previous medical conditions, if you are not covered under a goup health plan."

  1. This is proof of "continuous coverage". Meaning if you are no longer covered by this health insurance and have new health insurance (due to job change, etc.) they may ask for proof of previous coverage. The company has to send this to you as part of the "HIPPA" laws. This proves you are insurable.

  2. When you get a new group health insurance policy, they can exclude coverage for stuff that's already wrong with you, unless you can prove that you've had prior coverage.

That's what this certificate is.  You show it to your new insurance company, because it's proof that you had insurance before.
