Hi,

I have been learning a bit about networking on my own. I wish to acquire some certifications to attest to my knowledge. Which exams could I go for? I wish to appear in exams that are "vendor neutral". Please help.

  1. Comptia (http://www.comptia.org/) certificate is what you are looking for, you can start with Network+.  however you will need to get a "vendor specific" certificate later , like Cisco, Juniper or Nortel if you are going to work in networking field

  2. Here are some of the certifcations you will want to research.

    MCSE

    MCSA

    CCNA

    CCNP

    Security +

    Network +

  3. I would suggest that you start with certifications from Microsoft because 1. Microsoft's certificates are widely accepted across the world. 2. Microsoft is the world's largest software manufacturer. 3. Nearly 75-80% of the companies use Microsoft's product for networking.

I would suggest to start with MCSE and then you can move to Cisco's world starting with CCNA >> CCNP >> CCIE

There are couple of more certification providers like Checkpoint, Novell etc but that depends on your choice of speciality and the environment in which you would be working.

I am myself a MCSE and CCNA and currently working with Microsoft.
