Certified bank check????????????

Question

getting a certified bank check from mom today for 1500. will i be able to go to my bank and get it cashed? I think she has PNC, i have commerce.

there is a PNC bank near us, could we jst go there and get it cashed? or do we have to have an account?

You can cash it right away if you go to the issuing bank, PNC, they can verify the funds and clear the check right away

it just says to the depositing bank that the funds are good. so yes deposit it and funds should be available in 24 hours

Deposit the check.  Ask the bank how long it will take to clear.

Is your mother in another state?  Why did she send a bank check instead of a regular check?

There is a lot of fraud with certified checks.  Your bank will probably put a hold on that check for at least 7 days.  So, no, you won't be able to get cash at your bank.

You might be able to cash it at the bank where it's drawn.  They may charge you a fee for cashing it tho.

By the way, most banks would put a hold on a personal check for that amount.
