Certified edges out Yellow Cab in Monty Waterbury Consolation Match: 11-10 – Polo Update
Michel Dorignac was real architect of the triumph with six goals, as the team of Certified knocked down Yellow Cab by a solitary goal in the consolation match of the Monty Waterbury Cup being contested at the Bridgehampton Polo Club in California on Saturday,
August 13.
With the opening action, the team Certified established their dominance and obtained a couple of goals while holding opponent goalless in the first seven and half minutes of play. Adam Snow and his team-mate Marcos Garcia Del Rio were the players who opened
the scoring in the very early minutes through field efforts and put Certified ahead after the first chukka. The team Yellow Cab failed to show action and trailed by two goals, 2-0.
Michael Borrico, the skipper of the Certified team opened the scoring in the second set of play and enhanced the lead down to three goals. At last the Yellow Cab opened up the action and Nacho Figueras and Michel Dorignac scored one goal each to bring their
team into the game. Yellow Cab was trailing by a solitary goal, 3-2 at the end of the second frame.
The speed of the game further accelerated in the third set of play where both teams showed some brilliant moves and made the game more interesting. Dorignac scored off a couple of penalty shots while his team-mate Figueras accounted for a field goal. However,
the players from Certified were not sitting motionless as Tomas Garcia Del Rio and Snow notched two and one goal respectively and held back their thin lead, 6-5 at the half-time.
Del Rio and Snow scored one goal each at the start of the second half while the resilient defence from Certified kept Yellow Cab at bay in the fourth set of play. The Certified team led the scoring by two goals, 8-6 with two frames left to play.
In the second last period, Bash Kazi, the Number one position player of Yellow Cab came into action and helped his team-mates to level the scoring. Dorignac and Luis Escobar scored one goal each for bringing back his side into the score net. Both Yellow
Cab and Certified locked horns at eight-all at the end of the fifth period.
Dorignac showed an impressive move and scored off a long penalty shot to earn first lead of the match. But it could not last for long time and Snow made the results even at nine-each. Escobar scored another goal to regain lead in the game but it also had
short life. Later in the play, Tomas Garcia Del Rio made a couple of penalty conversions to take the results into their favour. They rode off the field with a single goal, 11-10 victory in the consolation match.
