Certified first responder?

I am 16 and I live in New York. I am interested in becoming a first responder. I understand that you need to take a 70 hour class be at least 16 and pass a written test. But, once you are certified what do you do? Can you be on call at age 16? Do you get payed for working as a first responder? Can someone please clear up the details for me?

After you are certified you go to work as a fire fighter, ambulance attendant, emergency response team etc.  You would be hard pressed to maintain all the equipment necessary on your own and no you don't get paid unless you are employed by the service which responds to the accident or disaster.
