Certified knocks down Heathcote in Monty Waterbury Cup: 11-10 – Polo Update
Tomas Garcia Del Rio scored five times and played a vital role in the triumph, as Certified edged past Heathcote by a solitary goal, 11-10 in the Monty Waterbury Cup held at the Bridgehampton Polo Club in New York.
Tommy Biddle, the seasoned striker of Heathcote while briefing the media following the match stated that it was very tough to miss the game in that way, as they dominated the most part of the game. He said, “They’re (Certified) one of the top teams in the
tournament,” said Biddle. “It was a long hard game, with every member of each team playing well. We made a mistake that put them at the penalty line.”
Amazingly, Heathcote received three handicap goals and established their strength over the 20-goal Certified. In the later period, Garcia Del Rio scored a couple of goals of which one obtained on a penalty shot while other from the field effort. The first
chukka ended with Heathcote leading the game at 3-2.
At the start of the second chukka, Tommy Biddle and Naco Taverna converted one penalty shot each and expanded the lead once again up to three goals. From the other side, Tomas Garcia Del Rio scored one goal and closed out the chukka at 5-3.
In the third frame, Adam Snow notched his first goal of the day while Tomas Garcia Del Rio added the fourth through a penalty conversion. However, the strikers from Heathcote were not sitting inactively. Biddle converted a pair of long penalty shots and
regained their two-goal lead, 7-5 with one half left to play.
In the fourth frame, Marcos Del Rio and Snow added one goal more from the field while limiting Heathcote’s action only for a single goal. Nick Manifold was the player who scored the first goal of the day and managed one-goal, 8-7 advantage.
Biddle inaugurated the second last period with a brilliant penalty conversion while his team-mate Manifold added a second to take the lead up to three. At last Certified’s attack came into action and scored two goals in the hands of Tomas and Marcos Garcia
Del Rio.
In the final seven minutes, Certified received two goals while holding opponents Heathcote goalless and take the game into their favour. Both Garcia Del Rio brothers scored the final goals and sealed the 11-10 victory for Certified.
