Certified to teach in PA...How do I become certified in NJ, too?

I am certified to teach elementary and special education in PA. Upon looking at the reciprocity statement on NJ's DOE website, I am completely lost. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do in layman's terms? Thanks so much!

  1. Contact N.J.*s D.O.E. and ask the requirements needed to teach. You might be qualified now depending on the PA. tests you took.

  2. To me it looks like that in the process of changing their SpEd certification and offering certain teachers the ability to get the Teacher of the Handicapped Certificate - but it depends on when you started college, graduated, and a deadline to apply.

If I were you, I would call the number on the website and talk to a representative to determine what the THC is, whether it applies to you, or whether you are qualified for other certification in the area.

The website doesn't make much sense since it seems neither of us understands their certification.

  3. You have to be certified in TX as well as in LA, things just don't seem to play up in KS but try OK just in case NY isn't NC, instead of SC.
