Cervantes-Huegun, Christian Lindell sail into the final qualifying round – ORBETELLO Challenger 2011
Number six seed Inigo Cervantes-Huegun thrashed out Italian Manuel Jorquera 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday to book his place in the final qualifying round of 2011 ATP ORBETELLO Challenger Series in Orbetello, Italy. Seeded sixth at the ATP
competition, the Spaniard looked in commanding form as he require only 56 minutes dispatching his opponent.
Cervantes-Huegun looked to attack his rival right from the start of the match. Breaking the serve early in the opening set, the Spanish tennis-pro took complete advantage of Jorquera’s unforced errors. Leading the game score 4-2,
he had his second break chance of the set. Dashing a wonderful backhand winner down the line, he earned an impassable 5-2 lead in the set, serving for the match. Holding on to his next service game with ease, Cervantes-Huegun bagged the opener to take the
set score lead 1-0.
Not wasting too many chances during the contest, Cervantes-Huegun made his opponent for his money with his strong and accurate ground strokes. Showing some amazing clay courts skills, he made Jorquera’s game play look completely
ineffective as he took the first set with in first half an hour of play.
The second set followed a very similar trend with Cervantes-Huegun dominating all aspects of the game. He was brave enough to come close to the net as she played those tricky drops to bamboozle the challenger.
Breaking the serve two times in the set, he established complete control over the situation. Running on the court like a hair, he outran his rival on several occasions.
A blistering serve ace set up three match points for the sixth seeded Spaniard. Converting a long rally in his favour, he completed his straight sets victory and booked his place in the last round of the qualification tournament.
Jorquera was short of answers against some high quality tennis displayed by his opponent. Under pressure, he started to make a lot of unforced errors including two costly double faults. His weak second serve also didn’t help the
cause as he managed to win only 26 per cent of the points on his second serve.
Looking for first ATP Challengers title of his career, Cervantes-Huegun will be hoping to continue his impressive run in his upcoming matches at the tournament as well.
Number two seed Christian Lindell also scored a thumping 6-1, 7-5 victory over Italian Daniele Spinnato to advance in to the final round.
Lindell started off very aggressively and took the opening set in blink of an eye with two breaks of serve. Spinnato regrouped himself a bit and put up a good fight in the second set but he failed to stop the Swede form earning
a well deserved straight sets victory.
