If i got a P2K could I use it for casual riding around town, and then use it as a tri bike in a triathalon by changing the seat tube angle, and taking off the aero bars and replacing them with bars you would find on a road bike?

  1. I guess you could. What do you mean by casual? Are you talking about training? You should do your training in your tri position, it actually takes some getting used to. If you're talking about going to the store, I would recommend that you buy another bike: if you can afford the P2K. You could do something cool like a Surly Steamroller (if you dig on the "fixie" thing) or a Surly Long Haul Trucker (if you want gears). I saw a guy do a LHT as a flat bar "city bike" it was sweat.

  2. Not advisable mate.

The P2K is a specific bike, for a specific purpose, leave it alone. The chopping and changing of parts (how you are able to change seat tube angle is baffling me though!!!) would be a pain and the overall geometry is not suited for general duties.

Get another bike for casual riding.

  3. A P2K is a bit of overkill for casual riding around town, IMHO.

For one thing, once you get it dialed in as a tri-bike, you won't want to change your set-up.  Leave it as is.

I would also suggest a second bike, maybe a used one.  There are nice steel-frame bikes out there used that lots of people won't buy because they aren't the latest and greatest.  Their loss is your gain.

I have a Surly Steamroller myself.  I run it as a fixie, but you could get a single-speed freewheel and s***w it onto the other side of the flip-flop hub and there you have a single speed.  But again, you could spend less money on a good used bike.

Set up the P2K and race your heart out. :-)  Be casual on a different bike.
