Cervix is soft and baby is in position - when will I start to dilate?

So at my 34 week check up - the baby is in position and my cervix is very soft. This is my 2nd pregnancy. What are the chances that I will be dilated to at least 1.5 CM by 38 weeks?

Due to some scheduling issues in October, my doctor will be doing a membrane sweep at 38 weeks IF I am at least 1.5 CM dilated.

I'm just so anxious! Based on my cervix being very soft at 34 weeks - do you think I will start dilating soon?

Any experiences relating to this would be great!

  1. it really is different in every pregnancy but i would think yes. i would deff. say you shouldn't make it past 40 weeks so just cross your fingers

  2. My cervix has been soft and 2 CM dilated since I was 24 weeks, and Im 35 weeks and Im still very soft and 2 CM dilated,  Labour will start when your baby is ready.

  3. It differs with every pregnancy really. There isn't much you can do to help you diliate either. Walk lots and things that they have you do to progress your labor in the hospital. These things are meant to help you diliate and for baby to come down.
