Question:

Cervix question?????

I have been doing a lot of research on the internet, and I haven't found the answer I am looking for. I know what my cervix feels like now (I am been doing self exams--sorry if it is tmi), but I am unsure what it is supposed to be like when I am actually ovulating. Can anyone tell me? I am trying to pinpoint my ovulation, and I am looking for as many signs as possible. Please no rude comments!

  1. When you're not ovulating--that is, most of the time--your cervix will be "low." That means it's fairly easy to find and it will feel firm, like the tip of your nose. When you're ovulating, it changes position to "high." It sort of flattens out and is much softer, like your lips. I think your best bet is to check it every day after your period ends so that you can get a good sense of it. Mine always seemed the same--and the high/low thing was mixed up in my mind--but one day it changed and I was like, "Ohhh...I get it."

I have very long fingers, but have wondered if more petite women might have trouble. Sitting or squatting, similar to positioning yourself to put in a tampon, is probably easier than lying down.

One more thing: Sometimes during s*x you feel like you're being "bumped" inside? That means your cervix is "low." When it's high, you don't feel it.

Good luck and don't stress over it; just try to get to know your body. Take care.

  2. My cervix is usually barely reachable with my middle finger a few days before and day of and maybe after ovulation. I don't check it after. You shouldn't count on the cervix position solely because it is hard to determine. I also check the fluid on the cervix, basal body temp, OPK, and feelings in my body for signs. Hope that helps you.
