Cesar Cielo captures Men’s 50m butterfly crown: Day six – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Day six of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy began in stunning fashion with the mind boggling splash of Brazilian swimmer, Cesar Cielo, in the final heat at Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Sunday, September 4. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m butterfly
final.
In the corresponding meet, Cielo hit the wall in 23.48 seconds to win the gold medal. The effort was under Cesar Cielo’s meet record of 22.98 seconds, set back in June, 2011. Cielo secured the gold medal in the Men’s 50m freestyle event at the 2008 Olympic
Games, in Beijing. Moreover, he won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle races at the 2009 edition of the World Championships, in Rome.
In addition, Cesar took home two gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly final heats at the 2011 edition of the World Championships, in Shanghai. Furthermore, he won two gold titles in the 50m and 100m freestyle events at the 2010 edition of the
World Championships, in Dubai. At the 2007 Pan American Games, Cielo grabbed three gold medals in the Men’s 50m, 100m and 4x100m freestyle final races.
In the meantime, Glauber Silva captured the silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 23.65 seconds and Nicholas Dos Santos took home the bronze medal of the platform by submitting an impressive time of 23.68. In the corresponding race, Domingos
Antonio Pedro was placed fourth in a time of 24.07 seconds.
Correios Martins De Souza Henrique rounded out the top five in a time of 24.44 seconds, whereas, Nunes Xavier Nobre Filipe was placed sixth in a time of 24.68 seconds. Santos Dos Roth Guilherme earned seventh place honours with a time of 24.70 seconds. Last,
but not the least, Mangabeira Vasconcellos Gabriel settled for eighth spot after he touched the finishing blockade in a time of 26.21 seconds.
All the contestants of the meet took a huge ovation due to their impressive swims and the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
