Cesar Cielo captures Men’s 50m freestyle gold: Day one - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Olympic champion and world record holder of the 50m freestyle, Cesar Augusto Cielo Filho of Brazil captured gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on primary day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Thursday, June 14.
The 25-year-old Cielo showed no mercy to his opponents and made his way to the finishing end for first position. With his alluring efforts, he faced strong battle from his strongest swimmer but managed to secure gold medal of the event.
Cielo continued his nerve-wrecking pace throughout the event and clocked a time of 22.17 seconds.
He was followed by Florent Manaudou of France, who stayed only 0.01 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing end for silver medal by posting a time of 22.18 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Ari-Pekka Liukkonen of Finland, who remained 0.12 seconds apart and reached the finishing end for bronze medal with an effort of 22.30 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Marco Orsi of Italy, who stayed 0.02 seconds away from earning bronze medal of the event and posted a time of 22.32 seconds for fourth position.
Following that, the audience witnessed impressive swims of Bruno Fratus of Brazil and Andrea Rolla of Italy for fifth position of the event.
The duo remained engaged in a neck-to-neck race in the second half but failed to surpass each other over the finishing end and ended in a joint finish for fifth spot. They remained only 0.05 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 22.37 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was trailed by Sergey Fesikov of Russia, who was 0.01 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with an effort 22.38 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Lucio Spadaro of Italy, who also remained 0.01 seconds behind and sprinted his way to the finishing end with the timing of 22.39 seconds.
Cielo was delighted with his gold winning effort in the single lap event and stated that he will try hard to defend his Olympic title at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympics.
